Interview with Natasha

 

1. Can you introduce yourselves and tell us how Natasha was formed?

• Hello, we’re Natasha, a four-member alternative rock band! Natasha is the leader who came up with the idea of Kim Seokju’s song.

2. What’s the story behind choosing the name “Natasha” for your band?

• The name “Natasha” was coined by vocalist Kim Seokju, who was inspired by the Korean poet Baek Seok’s poem “Me and Natasha and the White Donkey.”

3. Tell us about your debut single “Obsession.” What inspired the song?

• The debut single, “Obsession,” is Natasha’s own love song. Kim Seokju, the vocalist who created the song, had the idea of incomplete, immature love in a distorted form rather than a simple, straightforward love and wanted to express that through the song.

4. How does “Obsession” represent your style or the direction you’re taking as a band?

• I think it’s the most Natasha-like song made by four people from different music worlds. The direction as a band may vary from band to band, but I think a “band” is a team in which the members work together to create new sounds, and this is the direction Natasha should go.

5. Was there a specific moment or experience that led to the creation of this song?

• I don’t have any special experiences or moments, but I think my antipathy to the common love song I always had inspired me to make this song.

6. What do you want your listeners to feel or take away when they hear “Obsession”?

• I hope you guys can feel the confusion, obsession, the hectic feeling, and the sound of running away.

7. How did you all come together to create the sound of “Obsession”?

• Vocalist Seokju’s demo was accompanied by their own musical contributions, which resulted in the creation of this sound.

8. Do you have a specific process when writing or recording music as a band?

• I don’t know what other bands are going to be like, but we’re particularly concerned about how this song will look on the live stage, and how this song will have an organic impact on other songs.

9. Are there any other artists or genres that influence your music?

• Vocalist Kim Seokju was greatly influenced by Japanese rock music and Romantic & Impressionist classical music, bassist Yun Byeongjun was also influenced by Japanese rock music, drummer Min Taejun was influenced by hip-hop, and guitarist Koo Hyeonwoo was influenced by Western music.

10. What has the reception been like from your fans so far?

• Thankfully, we are receiving a lot of love compared to our period of activity. We will work hard to repay your love.

11. How do you feel about performing live, and do you have any memorable live experiences?

• Live performances are always fun. I’m trying to save every live, rather than remembering it in particular.

12. What has been the most exciting part of your journey so far as a band?

• Every time we do a live, those joyful moments seem to be updated. It’s a lot of fun to breathe with our fans.

13. Can fans expect more music soon? What’s next after “Obsession”?

• Next step, we are preparing to release an EP. We would like to perform more music in the future, so please show a lot of interest.

14. What are your long-term goals for Natasha? Where do you see yourselves in the next few years?

• First, I want to release a short song and let more people hear our music. And I have a dream that I want to see on a big stage at home and abroad.

15. If you could perform at any venue or festival, where would it be?

• Any stage you want your fans to come to is welcome.

• ‘Natasha’는 보컬 김석주가 백석 시인의 시 ‘나와 나타샤와 흰 당나귀’에서 영감을 받아 지은 이름입니다.

3. 데뷔 싱글 “Obsession”에 대해 이야기해 주세요. 이 노래는 어떤 영감을 받았나요?

• 데뷔 싱글 “Obsession”은 Natasha만의 사랑 노래입니다. 보컬 김석주는 단순하고 직선적인 사랑이 아닌 왜곡된 형태의 불완전하고 미성숙한 사랑의 느낌을 표현하고 싶어서 이 노래를 만들었습니다.

4. “Obsession”은 여러분의 스타일이나 밴드가 나아가고자 하는 방향을 어떻게 대표한다고 생각하시나요?

• 이 노래는 서로 다른 음악 세계를 가진 네 명의 사람들이 만든 가장 Natasha다운 노래라고 생각합니다. 밴드가 나아갈 방향은 각기 다를 수 있지만, “밴드”는 멤버들이 함께 모여 새로운 소리를 만들어가는 팀이라고 생각하고, 이는 Natasha가 가야 할 방향이기도 합니다.

5. 이 노래를 만들게 된 특별한 순간이나 경험이 있나요?

• 특별한 경험이나 순간은 없지만, 항상 흔히 볼 수 있는 사랑 노래들에 대한 반감이 이 노래를 만들게 된 원동력인 것 같습니다.

6. “Obsession”을 들을 때 청취자들이 어떤 감정이나 메시지를 느끼기를 바라나요?

• 혼란, 집착, 정신없이 달리는 느낌과 도망가고 싶은 느낌을 느끼시길 바랍니다.

7. “Obsession”의 사운드를 만들기 위해 여러분은 어떻게 함께 작업했나요?

• 보컬 석주의 데모는 각자의 음악적 특성에 맞춰 작업이 이뤄졌습니다.

8. 밴드가 음악을 작곡하고 녹음할 때 특정한 과정이 있나요?

• 다른 밴드는 어떻게 할지 모르겠지만, 우리는 이 노래가 라이브 무대에서 어떻게 구현될지, 다른 곡들과 어떻게 유기적인 영향을 미칠지를 고민하는 부분에 특히 신경을 씁니다.

9. 여러분의 음악에 영향을 준 아티스트나 장르가 있나요?

• 보컬 김석주는 일본 록 음악과 낭만주의 및 인상주의 클래식 음악에 많은 영향을 받았고, 베이시스트 윤병준도 일본 록 음악에 영향을 받았습니다. 드러머 민태준은 힙합 음악에 영향을 받았고, 기타리스트 구현우는 서양 음악에 영향을 받았습니다.

10. 팬들의 반응은 어떠했나요?

• 다행히도 활동 시기와 비교해 많은 사랑을 받고 있습니다. 그 사랑에 보답하기 위해 열심히 노력하겠습니다.

11. 라이브 공연에 대해 어떻게 생각하시나요? 기억에 남는 공연 경험이 있나요?

• 라이브 공연은 항상 즐겁습니다. 특별히 기억에 남는 것을 떠올리기보다는 모든 라이브를 소중하게 기억하려고 합니다.

12. 지금까지 밴드로서 가장 흥미로웠던 순간은 무엇인가요?

• 매번 라이브를 할 때마다 그 즐거운 순간들이 새로워지는 것 같습니다. 팬들과 함께 숨을 쉬는 느낌이 정말 즐겁습니다.

13. 팬들은 곧 더 많은 음악을 기대할 수 있나요? “Obsession” 이후에는 무엇을 준비하고 있나요?

• 다음 단계로 EP를 발매할 준비를 하고 있습니다. 앞으로 더 많은 음악을 선보이고 싶으니 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

14. Natasha의 장기적인 목표는 무엇인가요? 앞으로 몇 년 안에 어떤 모습이 될 것 같나요?

• 먼저 짧은 곡을 발표하고 더 많은 사람들이 우리의 음악을 들을 수 있도록 하고 싶습니다. 그리고 국내외 큰 무대에서 공연하는 꿈을 가지고 있습니다.

15. 만약 어떤 공연장이나 축제에서 공연할 수 있다면 어디에서 하고 싶나요?

• 팬들이 오고 싶어하는 무대라면 어디든 좋습니다.
