Interview with UINONE

1. Could you introduce yourselves and share how UINONE was formed?

Hello, we are UINONE, a four-member band from South Korea. Our band naturally came together as members who had been making music together for a long time decided to form a group. Each of us has a different musical background, but through collaboration, we’ve developed our own unique sound.

2. What is the inspiration behind the name UINONE, and does it hold any special meaning for the band?

The name UINONE is inspired by “猿人” (Yuinwon, meaning “ape-man”). We wanted to capture the raw emotions and primal expressions of humanity in our music. At the same time, it represents our commitment to never losing the purity and passion we had when we first started making music.

3. You recently released your debut album [Herman]. Can you tell us about the album and its inspiration?

[Herman] is an album that embodies emotions born in the ruins. Even in a destroyed environment, people hold onto love, conflict, and hope while seeking their own truth. The album follows this journey of emotions, eventually reaching the ultimate emotional state we define as Herman.

4. How did the concept for your debut single “Mahaom” come about, and what does this song mean to the band?

As our first officially released song, “Mahaom” holds a special place in our hearts. We aimed to express instinctive and primal emotions through sound, creating a dreamlike yet intense atmosphere. We believe this track represents our musical identity well.

5. “Seoul” is a deeply emotional track. What was the creative and recording process like for this song?

“Seoul” was inspired by the contrasting nature of the city itself. Love and loneliness, hope and despair coexist in Seoul, and we wanted to reflect this duality in our music. We incorporated ethereal yet sharp sonic elements to capture the emotions of living in such a space.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who is listening for the first time?

Our music isn’t confined to a single genre but is a fusion of various influences. It is rooted in rock, but we also incorporate electronic elements, focusing on following the natural flow of emotions rather than adhering to a specific style.

7. Are there any artists or inspirations that have significantly influenced UINONE’s musical style?

We often draw inspiration from movies and large-scale games. Various concepts, narratives, and visual designs strongly influence us.

8. Can you walk us through your songwriting process? Does the whole band collaborate, or does one member take the lead?

Usually, one member starts with a rough sketch of a song, but the entire band collaborates in the process of refining and completing it. Each member’s interpretation and ideas bring depth and diversity to the final composition.

9. How do you integrate electronic elements into your music, and what role does rock play in your overall sound?

The way we blend electronic music with rock varies by song. Some tracks are driven by synthesizers and programming, while others rely on strong guitar and drum arrangements. Our primary focus is to use whatever approach best conveys the emotion we want to express.

10. What kind of emotions or messages do you hope to convey through your music?

Rather than forcing a specific message, we want our music to serve as a space where listeners can project their own emotions. For some, it may be an emotional release; for others, it may be a deeply immersive experience.

11. How do you feel about live performances? Do you have a favorite venue or a dream stage you’d love to perform on?

Live performances are when our music feels the most alive. From intimate club shows to large-scale stages, each has its own charm. One of our dreams is to perform at major festivals in Europe.

12. Have there been any particularly memorable moments or unexpected experiences during your live shows?

During our album showcase, we were surprised by how many people showed up. Seeing each and every face in the audience from the stage is something we’ll never forget.

13. How has the response from your fans been so far? How do you typically connect with them?

We deeply appreciate the reactions we receive through social media and live shows. It’s incredibly rewarding when we meet listeners who truly understand and resonate with the emotions we try to convey.

14. Can fans expect new music soon? What’s next for UINONE after [Herman]?

Yes, we’ve already started working on our next project. We’re preparing something that will showcase a new side of us.

15. Is there any artist or collaboration you’d love to pursue in the future?

We’re interested in collaborating with both domestic and international artists. Working with musicians of completely different styles would be an exciting way to explore new possibilities.

16. Where do you see UINONE in a few years?

We hope to reach more listeners and perform on a wider variety of stages. Expanding our presence beyond Korea is one of our long-term goals.

17. If you had to describe the band in three words, what would they be?

Ethereal, Primal, Emotional.

18. Is there a little-known fact or interesting detail about UINONE that fans might not be aware of?

Despite our intense stage presence, we’re actually quite introverted in real life.

19. If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

We haven’t specified anyone in particular, but we want to work with a variety of artists. We aim to collaborate not only with musicians but also with artists from different fields.

20. What’s one goal you haven’t achieved yet but definitely want to?

We want to share our music beyond Korea and perform on international stages.

안녕하세요, 우리는 한국의 4인조 밴드 UINONE입니다. 우리 밴드는 오랫동안 음악을 함께 해온 멤버들이 자연스럽게 모이면서 시작되었습니다. 각자 다른 음악적 배경을 가지고 있지만, 함께 작업하며 우리만의 사운드를 구축해 나갔습니다.

2. UINONE이라는 이름의 영감은 무엇이며, 밴드에게 특별한 의미가 있나요?

UINONE은 ‘유인원(猿人, 원시인)’에서 영감을 받아 만들어진 이름입니다. 인간의 근원적인 감정과 본능적인 표현을 음악에 담고 싶었고, 동시에 우리가 처음 음악을 시작했을 때의 순수한 마음을 잃지 않겠다는 의미도 담겨 있습니다.

3. 최근 데뷔 앨범 [Herman]을 발매하셨는데, 앨범과 그에 담긴 영감에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

[Herman]은 폐허 속에서 태어난 감정을 담은 앨범입니다. 파괴된 환경 속에서도 인간은 사랑, 갈등, 희망을 놓지 않으며, 자신만의 진실을 찾아갑니다. 앨범 전체는 그러한 감정과 여정을 따라가며, 결국 [Herman]이라는 궁극적인 감정의 상태에 도달하는 과정을 그리고 있습니다.

4. 데뷔 싱글 “Mahaom”의 콘셉트는 어떻게 탄생했으며, 이 곡이 밴드에게 어떤 의미를 갖고 있나요?

“Mahaom”은 우리가 처음 세상에 내놓은 곡이라 더욱 애착이 갑니다. 본능적이고 원초적인 감정을 사운드로 표현하고자 했고, 몽환적이면서도 강렬한 분위기를 만들어내는 데 집중했습니다. 우리의 음악적 색깔을 가장 잘 보여주는 곡 중 하나라고 생각합니다.

5. “Seoul”은 감성이 깊이 배어 있는 곡인데, 이 곡의 창작 및 녹음 과정이 어땠나요?

“Seoul”은 서울이라는 공간이 가지는 상반된 이미지에서 출발한 곡입니다. 사랑과 외로움, 희망과 절망이 공존하는 이 도시의 분위기를 표현하고 싶었습니다. 사운드적으로도 몽환적이면서도 날카로운 요소들을 배치해, 도시 속에서 살아가는 감정을 녹여냈습니다.

6. 처음 듣는 사람에게 자신의 음악을 어떻게 설명하고 싶나요?

우리의 음악은 장르적으로 명확하게 정의되기보다는 여러 요소들이 결합된 형태입니다. 록을 기반으로 하지만, 전자음악적인 요소도 많이 사용하고 있으며, 감정의 흐름을 따라가는 데 중점을 두고 있습니다.

7. 밴드의 음악 스타일에 영향을 준 특정 아티스트나 영감이 되는 요소가 있나요?

저희는 보통 영화나 규모가 큰 게임 등에서 영감을 많이 얻습니다 다양한 컨셉이나 서사, 비주얼 디자인 등에서 많은 영감을 얻어요

8. 작곡 과정에 대해 설명해 주실 수 있나요? 밴드 전체가 함께 작업하나요, 아니면 특정 멤버가 주도하나요?

기본적인 스케치는 한 명이 시작하는 경우가 많지만, 곡이 완성되는 과정에서는 모든 멤버가 참여하여 함께 발전시켜 나갑니다. 각자의 해석과 아이디어가 모이면서 곡이 다채로워지는 것 같아요.

9. 전자음악 요소를 어떻게 음악에 녹여내는지, 그리고 록이 밴드의 사운드에서 어떤 역할을 하는지 궁금합니다.

전자음악과 록을 조합하는 방식은 곡마다 다릅니다. 어떤 곡은 신디사이저와 프로그래밍이 중심이 되기도 하고, 어떤 곡은 기타와 드럼이 강하게 이끌어가기도 합니다. 중요한 것은 감정의 흐름을 가장 잘 전달할 수 있는 방식으로 접근하는 것입니다.

10. 여러분의 음악을 통해 전달하고 싶은 메시지나 감정은 무엇인가요?

우리의 음악은 특정한 메시지를 강요하기보다는, 듣는 사람이 자신의 감정을 투영할 수 있는 공간을 제공하고 싶습니다. 감정의 해방구가 될 수도 있고, 깊이 빠져드는 경험이 될 수도 있죠.

11. 라이브 공연에 대해 어떻게 생각하시나요? 가장 좋아하는 공연장이 있거나, 앞으로 꼭 공연해 보고 싶은 장소가 있나요?

라이브는 우리의 음악이 가장 생생하게 전달되는 순간이라고 생각합니다. 작은 클럽 공연부터 큰 무대까지 각각의 매력이 있지만, 언젠가는 유럽의 페스티벌 무대에도 서보고 싶습니다.

12. 라이브 공연 중 기억에 남는 순간이나 예상치 못했던 에피소드가 있었나요?

앨범 쇼케이스 공연 때, 예상보다 훨씬 많은 분들이 와주셨던 게 기억에 남습니다. 무대에서 보이는 관객들의 얼굴 하나하나가 아직도 떠오릅니다.

13. 지금까지 팬들의 반응은 어땠나요? 보통 어떤 방식으로 여러분의 음악과 교감하나요?

SNS나 공연장에서 직접 반응을 들을 때 정말 감사한 마음이 듭니다. 우리가 표현하고자 한 감정을 정확히 이해해주시는 분들을 만날 때 가장 보람을 느낍니다.

14. 팬들이 곧 새로운 음악을 기대해도 될까요? [Herman] 이후 UINONE의 다음 계획은 무엇인가요?

네, 이미 다음 작업을 시작했습니다. 지금까지와는 또 다른 색깔을 보여드릴 수 있도록 준비하고 있습니다.

15. 앞으로 도전해 보고 싶은 협업이나 특별한 프로젝트가 있나요?

국내외 여러 아티스트들과 협업해보고 싶습니다. 전혀 다른 스타일을 가진 뮤지션들과 작업하면서 새로운 가능성을 탐색하는 것이 흥미로울 것 같습니다.

16. 앞으로 몇 년 후 UINONE은 어떤 모습일 것 같나요?

더 많은 사람들에게 우리의 음악을 들려주고, 다양한 무대에서 공연하는 밴드가 되고 싶습니다.

17. 밴드를 세 단어로 표현한다면 어떤 단어를 선택하실 건가요?

몽환적 (Ethereal), 원초적 (Primal), 감정적 (Emotional).

18. 팬들이 아직 잘 모를 만한 UINONE의 비밀이나 흥미로운 사실이 있나요?

우리 멤버들은 생각보다 조용한 성격을 가지고 있습니다. 무대에서는 강렬하지만, 실제로는 내향적인 편이죠.

19.  함께 작업하고 싶은 아티스트가 있다면 누구이며, 그 이유는 무엇인가요?

구체화 하진 않았지만 다양한 아티스트와 작업하고 싶어요, 저희는 뮤지션 뿐만 아니라 다른 분야의 아티스트와도 협업을 많이 하는걸  추구합니다

20. 아직 이루지 못한 목표 중에서 꼭 달성하고 싶은 것이 있다면 무엇인가요?

국내를 넘어 해외 무대에서도 우리의 음악을 들려드리고 싶습니다.
