Interview with Boi Brown

1. 개인 및 음악 여정: /Personal and Music Journey:

- 더 주류적인 길을 가기보다는 인디 음악계에서 경력을 쌓도록 영감을 준 것은 무엇입니까?/What inspired you to pursue a career in indie music rather than go down a more mainstream path?

A: 주류적인 길을 가고 싶었지만, 아직 제 실력이 부족한 것 같습니다. 그래서 인디 음악계에서 더욱 실력을 쌓고 영감을 받아 주류적인 길로 진출해보고 싶습니다. / I wanted to go mainstream, but I don't think I'm good enough yet. So I want to gain more skills and get inspired in the indie music industry to go mainstream. 

- 어떻게 음악을 시작하게 되었고, 한국에서 인디 아티스트로서 직면한 도전은 무엇이었습니까?/How did you start music, and what were the challenges you faced as an indie artist in Korea?

A: 음악을 시작하게 된 계기는 법학과에 진학을 한 후였습니다. 법학과와 저는 너무 맞지 않았고, 흥미가 생기지 않았습니다. 이대로 삶을 살다간 미래가 보이지 않아서, 내가 흥미 있어하는 음악을 한번 취미로 시작하며, 음악을 시작하게 됐습니다. 

한국에서 인디 아티스트로서 직면한 도전은 저라는 아티스트를 알릴 수 있는 플랫폼의 부재와 회사의 지원 없이 혼자서 음악을 창작하고 발매하고 마케팅을 해야하는 것이였습니다./ I started music after going to law school. Law school didn't match me so much, I didn't get interested. I couldn't see the future if I lived my life like this, so I started music as a hobby that I was interested in and started music.

The challenges I faced as an indie artist in Korea were the absence of a platform to promote my artist, and having to create, release, and market music by myself without the support of the company.

 

- 오늘날 예술가로서 자신이 누구인지를 형성한 중요한 순간이 있습니까?/ Is there a major moment today that shaped who you are as an artist?

A: 새로운 곡을 작업할 때마다 매번 느끼는 것 같습니다. 내가 이 곡에 어떤 메세지를 담고 싶어하는지 생각하며, 내가 누구인지 생각하게 되는 것 같습니다./I feel this every time I work on a new song. It makes me think about who I am, thinking about what message I want to put in this song.

 2. 크리에이티브 프로세스 및 독립성: /Creative Processes and Independence: 

- 귀하의 음악 스타일을 어떻게 설명하고, 어떤 영향이 음악 스타일을 형성하는 데 도움이 되었습니까? /How do you describe your music style, and what influences have helped shape your music style? 

A: 저는 힙합, 알앤비, 팝 스타일의 곡들을 좋아합니다. 크리스 브라운, 제인, 해리 스타일스, 트로이 시반 등등 많은 아티스트들에게 영향을 받으며 스타일을 형성하고 있습니다. /I like hip-hop, R&B, and pop-style songs. Chris Brown, Jane, Harry Styles, Troy Sivan, and many other artists are influencing the style.

- 곡을 쓰거나 음악을 작곡할 때 여러분의 창작 과정은 어떤가요? 여러분이 창작할 수 있도록 도와주는 특별한 루틴이나 설정이 있나요?/What is your creative process like when writing music or composing music? Do you have any special routines or settings that help you create? 

A: 저는 제가 좋아하는 음악들의 가사들에 많은 영향을 받는 것 같습니다. 제가 좋아하는 아티스트들의 감성을 저만의 감성으로 녹여내는 것에 재미를 느낍니다. /I think I'm very influenced by the lyrics of my favorite songs. It's fun to melt the emotions of my favorite artists into my own style.

- 창의적 독립성을 유지하면서 더 많은 청중에게 다가가는 방법은 무엇입니까? /How to reach a larger audience while maintaining creative independence?

A: 저는 음원 발매를 열심히 하는 것이 좋은 방법이라고 생각합니다. /I think it's a good way to release a song.

 3. 최근 및 향후 프로젝트: /Recent and Future Projects:

- 최근 프로젝트나 앨범에 대해 말씀해 주시겠어요? 그 뒤에 어떤 영감이 있었나요? /Can you tell me about your recent project or album? What inspiration did you have behind it?

A: 최근에 STAY OUT OF MY WAY 라는 신곡을 발매 했습니다. 사랑하는 것들을 지키고, 이루고 위해 달려가는 나를 방해하지마. 라는 메세지를 담고 있습니다. 그 뒤에 딱히 영감이 있지는 않았습니다. /We recently released a new song called STAY OUT OF MY WAY. It says, "Keep the things you love and don't bother me as I run to achieve them." I didn't have any inspiration behind it. 

- 최근 발매한 곡 중에 특별한 의미가 있는 곡이 있나요? 그 이유는 무엇인가요? /Is there a song that you recently released that has a special meaning? Why? 

A: 저는 작업 할 때, 곡에 특별한 의미를 두지 않는 것 같습니다. 그냥 일기를 쓰는 것처럼 솔직하게 나만의 생각들을 적어낼 뿐인 것 같습니다. /When I work, I don't think I put any special meaning on the song. I think I just write down my thoughts honestly like I'm keeping a diary.

- 앞으로 있을 음악이나 프로젝트에서 팬들이 기대할 수 있는 것은 무엇입니까? / What can fans expect from upcoming music or projects?

A: 앞으로도 꾸준히 음원 발매를 진행 할 예정입니다. 그리고 제가 좋아하는 음악들을 리믹스해서 제 개인 유튜브 채널에 리믹스 앨범도 발매 할 예정입니다. 많은 곡들을 준비하고 있으니, 조금만 기다려주십쇼. 좋은 음악을 들려드리기 위해 노력하겠습니다. /I'm planning to release songs continuously. And I'm going to release a remix album of my favorite songs on my YouTube channel. I'm preparing a lot of songs, so please wait a little bit. I'll try my best to show you good music. 

 4. 영향과 영감: /Influences and inspiration:

- 한국 안팎에서 여러분의 가장 큰 음악적 영향은 누구입니까? 그것들이 여러분의 음악에 어떤 영향을 미쳤습니까? /Who are your biggest musical influences both inside and outside of Korea? How have they affected your music?

A: 제가 좋아하는 아티스트와 음악들이 저에게 가장 큰 영향이 되는 것 같습니다. 혹은 영화나 드라마 같은 미디어 같은 것들도 많은 도움이 됩니다. 그것들은 저의 음악에 다양한 소재들이 되어줍니다. 제가 더욱 창의적인 상상을 할 수 있게 도와줘요./ I think my favorite artists and music have the biggest influence on me. Or media such as movies and dramas are very helpful. They can be various materials in my music. They help me to have more creative imaginations.

- 당신의 작곡이나 작곡에 영감을 주는 비음악적인 영향(책, 영화 또는 예술과 같은)이 있습니까? /Are there any non-musical influences (such as books, movies, or art) that inspire your composition or composition?

A: 옛날에 오티스의 비밀 상담소라는 드라마에 푹 빠져있었습니다. 너무 푹 빠져있어서, 남자 주인공의 심정으로 곡을 써보기도 했습니다. 재밌었던 작업이었어요./I was so into Otis' Secret Counseling Center a long time ago. I was so into it that I wrote the song with the feeling of a male lead. It was a fun work.

- 인디 아티스트든 주류 아티스트든 협업할 수 있다면 누구이며 그 이유는 무엇입니까? /If you could collaborate, be it an indie artist or mainstream artist, who would it be and why?

A: 저는 박재범, 크러쉬, 페노메코, 자이언티와 같이 대한민국에서 제일 유명한 아티스트들과 작업을 해보고 싶습니다. 제가 가장 존경하고 좋아했던 아티스트들입니다./ I want to work with some of the most famous artists in Korea like Park Jae-beom, Crush, Penomeco, and Zion.T. They are artists that I respected and liked the most.

 5. 한국의 인디씬: /Korea's indie scene: 

- 한국 인디 음악계의 현주소에 대해 어떻게 생각하십니까? 처음 시작했을 때부터 어떻게 달라졌습니까? /What do you think about the current state of the Korean indie music industry? How has it changed since the beginning?

A: 흠… 미디어가 발달하면서, 이제는 유명한 회사에 들어가지 않아도 스타가 될 수 있는 시스템이 만들어 진 것 같습니다. 하지만 자극적이고, 웃긴 콘텐츠들이 주를 이루면서, 음악에 대한 인식이 더욱 가벼워지고 있는 것 같습니다. 하지만 이건 아티스트들이 이겨내야 할 문제라고 생각합니다. /Hmm... With the development of the media, it seems that a system has been created to become a star without having to enter a famous company. However, with provocative and funny content dominating, it seems that the awareness of music is becoming lighter. But I think this is a problem for artists to overcome.

- 한국의 인디 음악계가 다른 나라와 어떻게 다르다고 생각하십니까?/How do you think Korea's indie music industry is different from other countries? 

A: 다른 나라에 대해서 잘몰라서 이야기를 할 수 없을 것 같습니다./ I don't know much about other countries, so I don't think I can talk about them.

- 이 분야에 진출하고 싶은 인디 아티스트 지망생에게 어떤 조언을 해주실 건가요? /What advice would you give to aspiring indie artists who want to enter this field? 

A: 음원 발매를 열심히 하자!/Let's work hard on the music release!

 6. 팬들과의 관계: /Relationships with fans:

- 팬들의 지지가 당신에게 얼마나 중요하며, 어떻게 그들과 연결을 유지합니까? /How important is the support of your fans to you, and how do you stay connected to them? 

A: 한분 한분 너무나도 소중합니다. 제 팬분들이 제 음악을 들어주지 않으면, 저는 아무것도 아니니까요! 제 팬분들과는 인스타그램을 통해 소통하고 있습니다. /Every single one of them is so precious. If my fans don't listen to my music, I'm nothing! I'm communicating with my fans through Instagram.

- 당신을 감동시킨 팬의 기억에 남는 경험이나 메시지를 공유할 수 있습니까? /Can you share a memorable experience or message from a fan that touched you?

A: 프랑스에 조르단이라는 팬분이 계셨습니다. 그분이 제 앨범도 구매해주시고, 프랑스에 빵과 초콜렛, 양말 등등 많은 선물들을 제게 선물해주신 적이 있습니다. 그리고 제 음악도 항상 많이 들어주시고, 홍보도 해주셨던 너무나도 감사한 분이었습니다. 아마 평생 잊지 못할 거예요./There was a fan in France named Jordan. He bought my album and gave me bread, chocolate, socks and many other gifts. And he was a person who always listened to my music and promoted it. I will never forget it.

- 여러분의 음악과 여정을 응원하는 팬들에게 전하고 싶은 메시지는 무엇입니까?/What message do you want to send to fans who support your music and journey?

A: 정말 너무너무 감사합니다. 여러분들의 관심과 응원 때문에, 음악을 계속 할 수 있는 것 같습니다. 앞으로 더욱 좋은 음악 들려드리겠습니다./Thank you so much. Thanks to your interest and support, I think I can continue to make music. We will show you better music from now on.

 7. 향후 계획 및 목표: /Future Plans and Goals: 

- 여러분의 미래의 목표는 무엇인가요? 여러분의 음악에서 탐구하고 싶은 새로운 방향이나 장르가 있나요? /What are your future goals? Are there any new directions or genres you want to explore in your music? 

A: 저는 트렌디한 음악을 좋아합니다. 빌보드에서 인기있는 장르들은 한번 씩 다 해보고 싶습니다./I like trendy music. I want to try all the popular genres on Billboard.

- 특별히 기대되는 프로젝트나 계획이 있습니까? /Do you have any projects or plans that you are especially looking forward to? 

A: 별거 아니지만 리믹스 앨범에 대한 기대가 좀 큽니다. 저 혼자 자유롭게 제가 좋아하는 곡들을 리믹스하며 저만의 곡으로 탄생시키는 과정이 너무 재밌을 것 같습니다. /It's not much, but I have high expectations for the remix album. I think it will be fun to remix my favorite songs and make them into my own songs.

- 만약 당신이 음악을 만들고 있지 않았다면, 당신은 지금 무엇을 하고 있을 것이라고 생각합니까? /If you weren't making music, what do you think you would be doing now? 

A: 정말 모르겠습니다… 그냥 돈 벌 수 있는 아무 일이나 하고 있을 것 같네요!/I really don't know... I think I'll just be doing anything to make money!

8. 재미와 개인: /Fun and personal: 

- 여러분은 음악 이외의 어떤 것을 즐겨 하나요? 팬들이 그것에 대해 알게 되어 놀랄만한 취미나 관심사가 있나요? /What other hobbies or interests do you enjoy other than music? Do you have any hobbies or interests that fans will be surprised to learn about it? 

A: 저는 게임과 영화를 무척 좋아합니다. 오버워치, FC온라인, SF, 스릴러, 공포 영화 등등 자극적인 것들을 좋아하는 것 같습니다./I really like games and movies. I think I like Overwatch, FC Online, SF, thriller, horror movies, and more.

- 전 세계 어디에서나 공연을 할 수 있다면 어디에서 공연을 하고 그 이유는 무엇입니까? /If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would you perform and why?

A: 와우 이런 생각은 안해봤는데, 이 질문 덕분에 좋은 생각을 하게 되네요. 감사합니다. 제가 아직 한번도 해외를 나가보지 않아서, 너무 어려운 질문이긴 한데, 그래도 제가 좋아하는 아티스트들이 많은 미국이란 나라에서 공연을 해보고 싶네요! 유명한 페스티벌 같은 곳에서 정말 유명한 해외 아티스트 분들과 같은 자리에서 공연 해보고 싶습니다./Wow, I didn't think about this, but this question gave me a good idea. Thank you. It's a difficult question because I've never been abroad before, but I still want to perform in America, where many of my favorite artists are! I want to perform at a famous festival or something like that with famous foreign artists.

- 대부분의 사람들이 모르는 자신에 대해 공유할 수 있습니까?/Can you share about yourself that most people don't know about?

A: 낭만이 있는 사람 같습니다. 하하 계산하는 거 별로 안좋아하고, 제가 하고자 하는 일들은 결과가 좋던 나쁘던 하기 때문입니다./I think I'm a romantic person. Haha, I don't really like to pay, and the things I want to do are good or bad.
